Brocade MLXe: Let's talk 100GbE!

If you don't have 3 minutes to watch Brocade's announcement, here's the gist: Brocade is BIG on the new release of their MLXe Service Provider router and for good reason. The MLXe chassis has twice the backplane throughput as the MLX/XMR (15.36Tb/s back plane, 960Gb/s per slot, with 32 x 100Gb ports or 256 10Gb/s ports at wire speed) and will support the almost unimaginable higher density 100 GbE card. Add to that the fact that current MLX/XMR users can incorporate either model's management and corresponding line cards into the units and all forward-thinking networks have reason to consider the upgrade. If you are considering upgrading give me a call at the number below as we can offer you trade-in credit on your older MLX/XMR gear. Charles Hurbert charles(at)terabitsystems(dot)com 415-483-1190 Direct AIM: chazfilez75 PS. It's also important to note Brocade's new part numbers. For the MLXe line, they changed "NI" to "BR" and added separate part numbers for configurations with both MLX and XMR management cards (The M denotes a MLX card, the X for XMR). See below for an example with a standard 4-slot config: BR-MLXE-4-MR-M-AC - MLXE-4 W/ 2 HSF, 1 1200W AC, 1 MLX MGMT, FANS, FILTER BR-MLXE-4-MR-X-AC - MLXE-4 W/ 2 HSF, 1 1200W AC, 1 XMR MGMT, FANS, FILTER Add to more part numbers for each respective configuration with DC power and you can see where things get a little complicated. Read them aloud for a great office tongue twister ;)
